Underaged Children Travelling With/Without Parents: What Documents Are Needed?

Are you travelling abroad with your child, but you are not sure which visa documents you need to collect? In this article, we are bringing you all information about the needed documents whether your child is travelling with both of his/her parents, with only one parent or with a person other than his/her parents.

 

China

 

If your child is under the age of 18 and is travelling to China, whether with you or with someone else, they will need a birth certificate in order to apply for their China visa. This certificate needs to be authorised and it needs to contain both parents’ names.

 

Here are the lists of mandatory documents for each of travelling arrangements.

1. The child is travelling with both parents:

    – authenticated birth certificate.

 

2. The child is travelling with only one parent:

     – authenticated birth certificate;

     – authenticated letter of authorisation for child’s visa application from the parent who isn’t applying for a visa (this letter needs to include the parent’s signature);

     – authenticated letter of authorisation from the parent who isn’t applying for a visa and declaring that they are consenting to the other parent travelling with the child (including the parent’s signature);

     – passport and ID photocopies with a signature from the parent who isn’t travelling with the child.

 

3. The child is travelling without parents:

    – authenticated birth certificate;

    – authenticated letter of authorisation for child’s visa application from both parents (including their signatures);

    – authenticated letter of authorisation from both parents consenting to an authorised person travelling with the child (including the signatures of both parents);

    – passport and ID photocopies with signatures of both parents.  

 

Russia

 

If your child is under the age of 18 and is travelling to Russia, whether with you or with someone else, they will need to have their application form for Russia visa signed by one parent or a legal guardian.

 

Here are the lists of mandatory documents for each of travelling arrangements.

1. The child is travelling with both parents:

    – visa application form needs to be signed by a parent or a legal guardian;

    – in case the parents or a legal guardian are not applying for the visa at the same time as the child, copies of their valid Russia visas need to be submitted.

 

2. The child is travelling with one parent:  

    – visa application form signed by a parent or a legal guardian;

    – copy of the child’s birth certificate;

    – copy of the parent’s or legal guardian’s passport who is not travelling with the child;

    – an original authorisation signed in front of a notary public by a parent or a legal guardian who is not travelling with the child.

 

3. The child is travelling without parents:

     – visa application form signed by a parent or a legal guardian;

     – copy of the child’s birth certificate;

     – copy of the parents’ or the legal guardian’s passports;

     – an original authorisation signed in front of a notary public by the parents or legal guardians.

 

India

 

If your child is under the age of 15 and is travelling to India, whether with you or with someone else, they will need to have their application form for India visa signed by one parent or a legal guardian.

 

Here are the lists of mandatory documents for each of travelling arrangements.

1. The child is travelling with both parents:

    – visa application form needs to be signed by a parent or a legal guardian;

    – in case the parents or a legal guardian are not applying for the visa at the same time as the child, copies of their valid India visas need to be submitted.

 

2. The child is travelling with one parent:

    – visa application form needs to be signed by a parent or a legal guardian;

    – copy of the passport or ID of a parent or a legal guardian who is not travelling with the child;

    – an original authorisation signed in front of a notary public by the parent or a legal guardian who isn’t travelling with the child.

    – visa application form needs to be signed by a parent or a legal guardian;

    – copy of the passport or ID of parents or legal guardians;

Vietnam

 

If your child is under the age of 14 and is travelling to Vietnam, whether with you or with someone else, they will need to have their application form for Vietnam visa signed by one parent or a legal guardian.

 

Here are the lists of mandatory documents for each of travelling arrangements.

1. The child is travelling with both parents:

    – visa application form needs to be signed by a parent or a legal guardian.

 

2. The child is travelling with one parent:

    – authorisation to travel signed by both parents or legal guardians;

    – visa application form signed by a parent or a legal guardian;

    – copies of a passport or ID of both parent or legal guardians. (In case the mother’s last name is different from the one on the child’s birth certificate, a copy of parents’ marriage certificate also needs to be submitted);

    – child’s birth certificate in original and copy, or only a notarized copy.

 

3. The child is travelling without parents:

    – authorisation to travel signed by both parents or legal guardians and accompanying adult/adults that is/are travelling with the child;

    – visa application form signed by a parent or a legal guardian;

    – copies of a passport or ID of both parent or legal guardians. (In case the mother’s last name is different from the one on the child’s birth certificate, a copy of parents’ marriage certificate also needs to be submitted);

    – child’s birth certificate in original and copy, or only a notarized copy.
