Travelling to India? You might need a visa. In case you do need it, this article is for you. Today we will explain to you how to apply for your Indian visa on the official website of the Indian government.
But stay tuned, because at the end of this walk-through we will offer you another, easier solution for your Indian visa troubles.
Starting with your Visa Application
For starters, you need to go to the online application which you can find at this link. After that click the orange button “Regular Visa Application” in the menu. You can find visa-related information by clicking the rest of the buttons.
Once you clicked the button, this will transfer you to the first part of your visa application form.
In this part, you need to provide the general information about your trip, such as the country you are planning to visit, where you will be applying (according to your country), the expected date of your arrival and personal details, such as your nationality and date of birth. At this point, you also need to specify the visa type and the purpose of your travel.
At the end of this section enter the code in the specified field and you can click on the button “Continue”.
Applicant Details Form
The next part of the visa application form is reserved for your personal information. At this point, you will receive a Temporary Application ID. Write it down in case for some reason you are not in the position to finish the application in one session. With this ID you will be able to come back later and continue where you left off.
This form consists of two parts: Applicant Details and Passport Details. This is all straightforward. The only thing you should pay attention, in case you changed your name in the past, is to click the specified box and give further details.
Also, make sure to write your surname and your given name(s) as they are stated in your passport.
Once you are done, you can click on the button “Save and Continue”. Since you now have your Temporary Application ID, you can also click on the button “Save and Temporarily Exit” and come back to your application later in case you need to check certain information.
Additional Applicant Details
The next section has the same name as the previous one, but it includes different data. Here you need to provide your address details, including the information about your parents.
Take note that you also need to provide a phone number you can be reached on (even though this field is not marked with a red star which indicates that this is required to be filled in, you won’t be able to continue to the next part of application if you don’t provide the phone number).
Other information that you need to provide at this point is your marital status and your profession/occupation details.
Once you are done, click either “Save and Continue” or “Save and Temporarily Exit”. Remember, with your Temporary Application ID you can return and continue where you left off.
Visa Details Form
In this part, you need to provide the details about the visa you are applying for, such as visa type, number of entries, the purpose of visit, etc.
You also need to provide information in case you were granted an Indian visa before and a list of countries you visited in the last 10 years.
On this page, you also need to provide information whether you travelled to any SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) country (not including your own) in the last 3 years.
Last but not least, you need to add reference people in India and Switzerland.
The last step is to upload your photograph. The photo requirements are listed under the option to choose your file. You can also either exit at this point and return later or you can choose the button “Skip and Continue” and upload your photo later. However, it seems that consulate doesn’t pay attention to the uploaded photo since you are still obliged to bring two photos in the square format 5x5cm while applying for your visa at the consulate.
After this, you will be transferred to the overview of your visa application. Here you can check everything once again and make any necessary changes before proceeding.
Signing the Visa Application Form
Once you are done with your application, you will need to print it out. Take note that you will need to sign it in two places. The first signature needs to be on the first page under your photograph at the top right corner as you can see on the picture below.
The other signature needs to be on the last page of your application at the bottom right corner of the specified place under the “Declaration”.
